a week in malaysia

Well, we made it! We've been in Kuala Lumpur for a little over a week now. Culture shocked? A little bit. Totally settled in? For the most part. Familiar with the area? Not really. Happy to be here? For sure.

Most of our time here so far has consisted of buying groceries and other apartment necessities (lost count of how many trips we made) and then working the rest of the time (I'm an online teacher). So, needless to say, we actually haven't seen much of quintessential Kuala Lumpur just yet. We are, however, well acquainted with the variety of grocery stores and malls in our area. Ha. Actual fun adventures of the city to come. And hopefully good food.

A definite highlight of our time here so far was church. We're part of a branch here and I've never been in a branch before, so it's a fun new thing for me. The branch was so welcoming and friendly—we felt included right from the get go. We're excited to meet more people each week and hopefully make some new friends.

Freddy finally started his internship at Deloitte on Tuesday! He likes his co-workers and the work he's doing, so #blessings. And now I'm getting used to be home alone again. The first two days were rough, but I think I'm adjusted to it again.

So, how is Malaysia? We're still working on figuring that out. But we're enjoying the adventure all the same.

LOOK AT ALL THOSE TREES

The view from our apartment. Again, TREES. A big difference between Singapore and Malaysia is space. Singapore is small and a little crammed, but Malaysia is full of open space. But what Singapore has going for it is order—Malaysia is more on the chaotic side.

We were going on a little walk to find a food truck. Never made it to the food truck because walking places is basically impossible here (this is not a city made for pedestrians), but we found Freddy's building!

Super flattering photo of me in the FOURTH grocery store we shopped at. Took four chains to find one we felt comfortable with. So the look on my face is one of slightly crazed relief.

The weather here is mostly cloudy/hazy, but one morning I woke up to bright orange light streaming through the window... And looked outside to see this. It's honestly such a blessing to live in an apartment where I can see sunrise. Thanks, Freddy. Makes me feel at home.

Most people use the Asian Uber equivalent to get around here. It's called Grab. So we were Grabbing to church and passed this ad. "Hire a good maid will make your family happy." Hmm.

Literally took this right as we were walking into the building, hence why you can see someone about to come out the door. Props to Freddy for his on point, spontaneous posing skills.

Oh, how we love church. It's such a blessing to always know we have a place to go where we belong.

The elevators in our building are very shiny, which makes for lots of mirror selfie opportunities. Freddy is clearly learning to embrace it.

We have an oven! After a year of living oven-less! So I baked banana cake. It's like banana bread only... cake.

Sending the man off to his first day of work! Nervous but happy to finally have something to do after waiting to start for three months.

Yep, he's happy about it.

Cutie fixing his tie before he steps into the elevator. He's the best.
